Raw Kale and Avacado Salad

Remove stems from kale, chop leaves into small bite-sized pieces.
Place kale pieces in bowl, sprinkle with olive oil and massage oil into leaves with fingers. Make sure there is just enough oil to coat the kale.
Add a pinch of sea salt, massage again with fingers.
Add 1/2 avocado to kale mix, massage again with fingers.
Add juice of 1/2 lemon, massage again with fingers.
 
Add additional ingredients as preferred (tomato, olive, onion, etc). No dressing needed.

Thanks for this great sounding recipe!
Only- I need help understanding exactly to what extent "massage" means... should the kale be made more soft by the massage? And should the avocado turn into a paste or should it remain in blocks?
